New Manager

I'm a new manager, promoted from within the department after working for the company for 5 years. I'm beginning to get the sense that the staff are unhappy with my appointment which is leading to declining morale. I really believe I'll be a great manager but I'm struggling with cutting through the frustration of my team while leading improvements within the department. Does anyone have advice on how I can effectively lead my team of peers?
